Pappulo Undrallu is a traditional Andhra dish made for Ganesh Chaturthi as Naivedyam. It’s made with moong dal and dumplings made with rice flour.

It’s a belief that lord Ganesha likes Undrallu and Kudumulu which are rice flour dumplings cooked in a different way.

Amma always made it on this festival and as kids we enjoyed it thoroughly as we get to eat it once a year. I kept the tradition going….

Preparation Time : 10 minutes

Cook Time : 30 minutes

Serves : 4

Moong Dal : 1 cup

Rice Flour : 3/4 cup

Jaggery : 3/4 cup

Elachi/Cardamom powder : 1/8 teaspoon

Heat a pan and dry roast moong dal for 5-7 minutes until you get a nice aroma.

In a thick bottomed pan, add 3 cups of water and moong dal. Cook for 10 minutes.

Add about a 1/4 cup of hot water to the rice flour and make a dough. Make small marble size balls out of the dough.

Add these rice balls/dumplings to the moong dal and cook for another 10 minutes.

Add jaggery, mix well and cook for another 10 minutes stirring in between.

Add cardamom powder and turn off the stove, let it cool for 10 minutes and serve.
